Music games are on the decline today, but there was a time when everyone swore by it. Undoubtedly nostalgic for this period, the Modus Games studio intends to promote the genre with a new title with a new concept, even conceptual. With God of Rock, the idea is to mix fighting game with musical game and it was during gamescom 2022 that the title was announced and even presented. The screen looks like a classic fighting game, with its two fighters, their health and power gauges, to which scores of notes to be validated have been added at the bottom of the screen. As for a Taiko no Tatsujin, you have to tap on the scrolling colored notes, in order to send mandalas and special moves to weaken the opponent. The objective is indeed to increase the gauge by playing the notes in the tempo of the song, to then spend them to trigger EX attacks and blows, which has the consequence of adding complexity to the songs. To win the duel, you have to manage to execute the fury, knowing that each fighter-musician has his own characteristics. Where God of Rock goes to the end of his madness is that he will have to execute special commands like in a real fighting game, with quarter circles to do.
Modus Games announces 12 playable characters at launch, each with their own characteristics of course, but only 8 stages will be planned. On the other hand, on the music side, we will be served with no less than 40 pieces in total, knowing that the difficulty will increase. Several modes are planned: "Narrative" to know the story of each character, "Training", "Multi local and online" where it will be possible to share your ranking, and finally "Level Editor" to create your own songs. The release of God of Rock is expected for this winter 2022 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
