It's now official: after breaking the box office by generating more than a billion dollars in revenue, the film Joker will indeed be entitled to a sequel. This is indeed what director Todd Phillips announces via his Instagram account where we can see Joaquim Phoenix leafing through the script for Joker: Folie à Deux. However, the case was far from won since the guy never hid that originally, Joker was envisaged as a one shot. Beyond financial considerations, it was above all Joaquim Phoenix's desire to play the Clown Prince of Crime again - which won him the Best Actor Oscar in 2020 - which certainly convinced Todd Phillips to pursue the adventure.
In any case, the name of the film is already the subject of several theories. For example, some are convinced that Joker: Folie à Deux will mark the arrival of Harley Quinn - who has already been embodied by Margot Robbie in dark rooms, and Kaley Cuoco in the animated series. This would allow to discover a new facet of the Joker while distributing this murderous madness on the two characters. Others believe that Batman might appear in the film with undisguised excitement. Some believe the script (co-written by Todd Philips and Scott Silver) will introduce a second Joker. Finally, others believe that the title simply refers to the eponymous mental disorder, and that therefore nothing else should be seen in it.
You will have understood it, even before the broadcast of its first trailer, Joker: Folie à Deux (whose filming should not start before 2023) is already causing a lot of ink to flow on the Web. Given the critical and commercial success of the first film, it was to be expected.
