Lost connection to Age of Empires 4: Fixed error C00T01R-2x-01

Error C00T01R-2x-01 in Age of Empires 4 has plagued players using Steam. The error is caused by the game failing to connect the player's Xbox Live and Steam accounts, and completely locks them out of Age of Empires 4.

Relic is trying to deal with the C00T01R-2x-01 error on its end, but in the meantime there are a few things you can do to possibly work around the C00T01R-2x-01 error.

Update your game to the latest version

Relic has released patches, so make sure your game has them all first. Enable auto-update in your Steam client:

Go to your Steam client

Select the "Library" tab

Right click on Age of Empires 4 game

Select "Properties" from the list

Select the "Updates" tab

Choose the “Always keep this game updated” feature

Now you can be sure that Steam will update your game whenever a new batch of bug fixes are released.

Disable your antivirus and firewall

The official statement from the developer is as follows:

"If you can't connect to Xbox Live, your antivirus or firewall may be preventing you from accessing the online service. »

This means that you need to temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus settings to bypass the C00T01R-2x-01 error.

If you are running built-in Windows Defender Antivirus, you can temporarily disable it by following these steps:

Press the Start button

Go to the “Settings” tab

Select the "Update and security" function

Go to the “Windows Security” tab

Select the "Virus & Threat Protection" feature

Go to “Manage Settings” option

Disable real-time protection

You can do the same with Windows Firewall:

When you are done playing, you can re-enable the antivirus and firewall.

Reinstall your game

The Age of Empires 4 Support Team also added the following statement:

“Some anti-virus programs may also interfere with the installation of game files. Try reinstalling the game before trying to play again. »

If you are using anti-virus software other than Windows Defender, you may need to disable it and reinstall the game:

Go to your Steam client

Select the "Library" tab

Right click on Age of Empires 4 game

Adjust Internet Explorer settings

Internet Explorer can also prevent you from connecting to Xbox Live services, causing the C00T01R-2x-01 error. Try doing the following:

Launch the Internet Explorer application

Click on the Tools menu (gear icon)

Select the “Internet Options” menu

Go to the “Security” tab

Set the “Internet zone security level” to “Medium”

Go to the “Privacy” tab

Set the “Privacy Setting” to “Medium”

After enabling medium security settings for your connection, you should clear your cache and cookies:

Launch the Internet Explorer application

Select the “Internet Options” menu

Click on the “Delete” button

Select “Cache” and “Cookies” from the list

Validate by pressing "Delete"
