It's the Year of the Phoenix in Hearthstone, with Phases 1 and 2 out of the way, meaning all that's left is Phase 3 on their roadmap. Blizzard just announced what the new Madness of the Darkmoon Faire expansion contains and information about the new game mode, along with many more in their Hearthstone Fall!
Duels' is a new game mode, and comes with Hearthstone's new expansion Madness at the Darkmoon Faire. This is a competitive game mode that changes every season. In duels, players can choose a hero, hero power and signature treasure, then you have to build a deck of 15 cards from your huge collection of cards without a doubt! So get ready to face human opponents in dungeon-like gameplay!
This is where things get interesting; after your first match, you gain health and also improve your deck by choosing one of three decks of cards, all based on a theme. If you're lucky, you might be able to pick up some pretty powerful treasures! Win or lose, you still gain health and level up, but the rules work like battlegrounds, so if you lose 3 times or win 12 times, your race ends!
In Season 1, active sets will include:
- Scholomance Academy
- Curse of Naxxramas
- One night in Karazhan
- Classic and basic sets.
The 10 heroes you can choose from are:
- Archwitch Willow - Démoniste
- Forest Guardian Omu – Druid
- Infiltrator Lilian – Thief
- Fireheart Instructor - Chaman
- Mindrender Illucia – Priest
- Mozaki, Master Duelist – Mage
- Professor Slate – Hunter
- Rattlegore – Warrior
- Star Student Stelina - Demon Hunter
- Turalyon, the Holder – Paladin
Duels is a free-to-play mode, with early access available today, October 22, after the reveal wraps. However, that's only if you've pre-purchased the expansion! On November 12, all Hearthstone players will be able to try out the new game mode, with the official Season 1 starting on November 17. Oh, there's more; if you want to try heroic mode by paying 150 gold or buying a tavern ticket for £1,99, you can get better rewards based on your win-loss streak, just like Arena!
