Operation Wolf: a remake of Taito's rail-shooter by Microids, the first images
As we know, Microids has big international ambitions, and a little less than a year ago, the French publisher announced a partnership with Taito for the revival of several of its old games. We had the announcement of Arkanoid a few months ago, here is that of Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission, made in the middle of Tokyo Game Show 2022, which also explains why Microids has a stand at Makuhari Messe this year. It is neither more nor less than the remake of Taito's famous rail-shooter released in Arcade in 1987 and which rocked the youth of many forties (and more) of today. This reinterpretation is produced by the French studio Virtuallyz Gaming, used to VR games and whose premises are located in Aix-en-Provence. As we can see on the first images shared (no video yet at this stage of the announcement), we see that the developers started from a white copy, with a 3D rendering that will try to keep the spirit of the original work, although the artistic direction is completely different.
Microids unveils in its press release a campaign that can be played in solo or with 2 players locally, with, we hope, new features so that this 2022 remake will be most interesting. Obviously, since it is still a rail-shooter, the gameplay should remain fairly basic, but we are counting on the French studio to surprise us as well. As for the story, since we have information on it, know that it will deal with arms and drug trafficking, forcing the American government to send two super agents to thwart General Viper's plans, to dismantle the organization and release the hostages held in the surrounding camps.
The release of Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission is scheduled for this fall 2022 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, knowing that only the PlayStation and Nintendo versions will be entitled to physical marketing. The rest will be digital only. Finally, be aware that a VR version for Meta Quest 2 will be available in 2023.
