Oscar Isaac (Dune, The Force Awakens, Inside Llewyn Davis) is Solid Snake in Sony's Metal Gear Solid film adaptation. The news comes from an exclusive Deadline report, but as of now, there is no Metal Gear Solid movie release date yet.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island, Mash Up) will direct the film, with Avi Arad (Into the Spider-Verse, Venom) as producer and Derek Connolly (Rise of Skywalker, Jurassic World) as screenwriter.
Sony's Metal Gear Solid movie follows the basic plot of the 1998 Hideo Kojima game of the same name. And as you'd expect from anything named after Kojima, it's pretty tough. Metal Gear Solid's basic plot follows Solid Snake as he initially attempts to rescue a pair of hostages, but he transforms into a mix of fake identity masterminds, mind control and cyborg ninjas, among others.
It's just one of many video game adaptations slated for 2021 or beyond, alongside The Last of Us HBO series, the Mortal Kombat movie, and possibly a Final Fantasy XIV TV series.
The last game to be released in the Metal Gear series was Metal Gear: Survive, a third-person zombie survival game. Prior to that, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was the most recent title in the mainline franchise and the last game to be handled by Hideo Kojima.
Recently, there have been rumors that a Metal Gear Solid remake has made the rounds, though none of these are confirmed at the time of writing.
