Ever since 2014's PT and Hideo Kojima's genius in horror gaming, gamers and dev studios alike have been looking for such thrills. It is from this starting postulate that Paranormal Tales, also called PT, was born, a new bodycam horror game developed under Unreal Engine 5 by two people who are fans of Hideo Kojima's work on this demo. The story of the game remains rather vague for the moment, and the sequence which has been shown shows a man in search of Teddy, his dog, lost in a forest in the middle of the dark night. Where Paranormal Tales stands out from other horror games is through its curved fisheye image, justified by a bodycam in the game. The immersion is then total and gives an amateur film side that immediately gives chills, especially when you make encounters as fortuitous as this young woman who levitates in the background and who begins to rush towards you in a position that recalls the demon of the Exorcist.
The game borrows codes from many horror films, starting with Blair Witch, with this now famous sequence where we see a woman levitating in the corner of a room for no apparent reason. In the game, the surrounding furniture also begins to defy gravity. Thanks to the Unreal Engine 5, this PT version 2022 offers photo-realistic graphics, especially in the rendering of vegetation in the middle of the forest. The objects in the house have also been modeled with the greatest realism, which contributes to the anxiety of watching this trailer. Moreover, on the official site, the developers specify that if you do not like jump-scares, that you have trouble managing anxiety, spiders and freakouts, it is strongly recommended not to play this game. The tone is immediately set.
The release of Paranormal Tales is expected on PC for 2023.
