Today, Behavior Interactive unveils the next DLC release for its popular 4v1 asymmetrical survival horror game, Dead By Daylight, in partnership with Konami: Silent Hill!
The release will not only include Pyramid Head as a new killer, but it will also include Cheryl Mason as a new survivor and the iconic Midwich Elementary School as a new map.
Needless to say, this is a big deal for both game franchises. Not only is it one of the best-known and most recognizable horror franchises in video games, with multiple acclaimed game releases, it also features one of the most iconic horror villains of all time, making it the perfect fit for Dead By Daylight.
And for Silent Hill, it could point to signs of renewed interest in Konami's license, something fans have been asking for for years. The most recently released new Silent Hill games were Book of Memories on PlayStation Vita in 2012 and Downpour on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, also in 2012, so it's been a while.
Of course, that doesn't count 2014's PT, the incredible teaser demo for Silent Hills, a game that never saw the light of day after Hideo Kojima split from Konami.
Mathieu Côté, Game Director Dead by Daylight and Product Evangelist for Behavior Interactive, said of the partnership:
We are thrilled to welcome Silent Hill as Chapter 16 of Dead by Daylight. Silent Hill is an iconic video game license and adding it to our legendary horror list is truly an honor. We hope players will have as much fun discovering this chapter as we had making it.
During a Skype call, I had the chance to briefly chat with Côté about the new version. He told me Pyramid Head would look and feel like Silent Hill 2, more specifically, and he features a powerful shockwave attack with his massive sword that can even smash through walls or obstacles.
On the other hand, one of Cheryl's boons allows her to communicate with the Entity, in a limited way, to jam a generator and prevent the killer from damaging it for a limited time. If timed well, this could be a great way to buy time while hiding or escaping during a chase.
Achieving such a well-known IP isn't unusual for Behavior Interactive with Dead By Daylight, but catching characters from another horror franchise is pretty rare. Bill from Left 4 Dead is there, but otherwise it's mostly movie icons like Ghost Face from Scream, Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street, and Michael Myers from Halloween, among others. This latest version marks a big step for Konami and Behavior Interactive.
As a huge fan of the game personally, I can't wait to see how the two new characters play out.
Despite the name, it looks like the screams will be anything but quiet once this new killer makes its way to Dead by Daylight starting today on the Steam Public Test for PC and June 16 on PC and consoles officially. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more.
