SNK vs Capcom: a cross-over return is possible, Yasuyuki Oda Oda raises the hype

Is a return of SNK vs Capcom possible? If we are to believe the words of Yasuyuki Oda, producer of the KOF series but also at the head of the resurrection of SNK for a few years, bringing together the two teams again in one and the same fighting game is very plausible. Questioned by our American colleagues from VGC on the occasion of EVO 2022, the Japanese game designer returned to the tweet from SNK posted on the occasion of the tournament which took place in early August in Las Vegas. It was a photo where the bridges of SNK (including Oda-san himself) and Capcom unveiled two never-before-seen posters of characters from the KOF and Street Fighters series gathered to celebrate the return of EVO in person with the mention "Welcome back". Each artwork had been produced respectively by the appointed illustrators of each house: Eisuke Ogura for SNK and Shinkiro for Capcom; like at the time of the first SNK vs. Capcom in 2000 and 2001. Obviously, the community immediately expressed its joy and speculations began to emerge, which did not fail to make Yasuyuki Oda react.

In the near future, it's something that everyone, on each side [SNK and Capcom, editor's note], wants to make it possible, to make it a reality. We haven't really entered into detailed discussions with anyone at Capcom around this topic, however, we do have a lot of crossover experience, including Akuma and Geese who appeared in Tekken, Terry Bogard in Fighting EX Layer, Terry in Smash Bros. and Baiken in Samurai Showdown… We haven't done anything with Capcom in the last few years, not even character collaboration stuff. So this poster at EVO is in my opinion the first step towards something that could happen.

Should we just see it as a wish, or a beginning of teasing as Oda-san had already done several years before the official announcement of the return of Fatal Fury and a Garou Mark of the Wolf? Given the nostalgia that rocks the Japanese producer, it is obviously not forbidden that SNK and Capcom have already started discussions around a new cross-over. At least, we feel that the desire is stronger on the side of SNK than the eternal competitor and now friend too. The VGC reporter concluded by asking if fans will need to wait 20 years to see SNK vs. Capcom return to the EVO stage, Oda's answer is decidedly more optimistic.

20 years is definitely too long for me. We will try to do it in 10! Both parties are interested in bringing SNK vs. Capcom back.
