Hermen Hulst, the President of PlayStation Studios, recently offered a media tour to speak about the strategy of Sony Interactive Entertainment. He notably exchanged with Julien Chièze, an interview during which he confided that there was a chance that first party productions would now land on PC a year after their release on PlayStation, except for service games which could happen. simultaneously because they require "a very involved community" and "a strong commitment from the start."
With our colleagues from Famitsu, the former boss of Guerrilla Games had the opportunity to come back to the latest acquisitions made by Sony Interactive Entertainment (Bungie, Savage Game Studios among others) and what this implied in terms of synergy. "At PlayStation Studios, our ambition is to establish a true culture of collaboration, he explains. And this can take different forms, such as exchanging ideas and finding a way to deal with the pandemic. It can also concern the sharing of technologies. Moreover, several studios are currently using the Decima Engine (the Guerrilla Games engine present in Horizon and Death Stranding among others). We attach great importance to improving our technologies, which makes the studios communicate a lot with each other." It will be interesting to know which studios precisely currently use the Decima Engine, and especially, within the framework of which project.
In the process, Hermen Hulst specifies that this famous culture of collaboration also aims to harmonize things on a human level. "This is a sensitive subject, but it is also important to guarantee the health of our developers, he says. Each studio has its own culture and approach, but this represents so many opportunities to learn and share skills. Sometimes we collaborate on games by providing feedback. For example, Guerrilla Games and Firesprite are working together on a PlayStation VR 2 game (Horizon: Call of the Mountain, editor's note) which will be released on next year. Really, there is real cooperation between the studios." The opposite would have been surprising, however.
