Formalized last year during the PlayStation Showcase, the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is currently at an impasse. In any case, this is what Jason Schreier (Bloomberg) believes, who indicates that following a demo presented on June 30 to Sony Interactive Entertainment and Lucasfilm, and while the Aspyr teams were satisfied with the work done from the start development, this trial version did not meet the expectations of decision makers. Result: Brad Prince and Jason Minor, respectively design director and artistic director of the game, were immediately fired. According to a source, the fact that this demo required a lot of money and time would not have worked in favor of the two executives. Moreover, internally, it is said that the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – whose development is now on stand-by – should not be released before 2025.
Studio leaders would have informed their teams of the latest events, and would even have told them that it was time to look for new development opportunities. In other words, the project should probably be withdrawn from them, Saber Interactive being tipped to recover it. This is not really a surprise in the sense that the American studio (which bought Aspyr in 2021 via the parent company Embracer) was already involved in the project; except this time he should be alone in command. In his paper, Jason Schreier points out that it had been three years since the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was in development at Aspyr, and that the latter had assured that the game would be ready for 2022. We now know that this will not be the case.
For the record, the game was announced on PC and PS5.
