MechWarrior 5 is an underrated and decent title on its own. However, the game can be said to be lacking in a lot of areas, from lackluster contracts to modest salvage rewards and meager variation of Battlemechs.
Fortunately, fans of the Battletech series and MechWarrior games have decided to create dozens of fantastic mods to rectify the game's many doubts. That said, here are some of what we consider to be the must-haves when it comes to MechWarrior modding 5.
Yet another mechanical laboratory
Customization and variety of weapons are essential elements that many players feel were missing when playing MechWarrior 5. Luckily, this is where Yet Another Mech Lab comes to save the day.
Yet Another Mech Lab adds a ton to the game and overhauls how players build and customize their mechs. The first major change is the revamp of the Mech Lab system to bring it in line with MechWarrior Online's system. MechWarrior Online variants have also been added to the game and can be purchased and collected.

Yet Another Mech Lab also changes various things, such as better recovery, equipment rules, and various other utilities. Players can also now use lighthouses, UAV drone, and more.
However, Yet Another Mech Lab is just the base mod, and there are two other sub-mods you need to grab along with the main mod. The first is yet another mech, yet another weapon, and yet another weapon clan. Both of these mods add tons of extra weapons to the game and are essential for any true MechWarrior.

Mech variants based on lore
Lore Based Mech Variants is a simple mod that simply adds more mechs to the game based on the lore of the setting. For that reason, this is a decent mod to add to your list for chunky boys to shoot and drive. But if you're playing Yet Another Mech Lab, you'll need to download the YAML version of the mod.

TTRulez AI Mod2
Another must-have mod is the TTRulez ai mod. The mod changes the behavior of your AI spear mates and enemy forces to be smarter when it comes to warfare and combat. So download this mod and watch rival Battlemechs destroy your legs, blast your back and run away.

Better spawns
Better Spawns changes the spawn behavior of different types of enemies in the game to spawn farther away from the player. It's simple and a welcome change and makes the game all the more enjoyable as enemies close in on you from a distance.
Advanced Zoom
Advance Zoom adds a new zoom range that goes up to 4x and 8x magnifications. We recommend giving it a try, especially if you like shooting PPCs. However, keep in mind that it is used in night vision mode, the oscilloscope will remain in non-night vision mode.

Camouflage Specifications
Camo Spec adds well over 100 skins that can be placed on your Battlemechs to add extra customization to a game that is so lacking. All skins are also taken from other MechWarrior games and also include common military camouflages.

Activate Infantry
A feature cut from MechWarrior 5 was the implementation of infantry, this mod enables infantry and allows them to appear in game. If you add this mod as is, you may find that infantry feels weak and rather useless. So as a solution, you can use a mod like Infantry Tweaks to make them more useful and pose a threat if ignored. But be warned, using Infantry and the Tweak mod can increase performance, so use them at your own risk.

How to Install MechWarrior 5 Mods
Before installing mods, you must first learn how to install them. In short, the installation of mods depends on the type of mod you have downloaded. Mods that only have pak files should be placed in the MW5MercsMW5MercsContentPaks folder.
Regular mods with multiple files can go to the game's mod folder instead. You can find the mod folder for the game in MW5MercsMW5MercsMods.
But before trying to install mods, it is better to check the upload date and description of the mods. The reason for this is that some mods may become obsolete as games receive updates and new DLCs.
The other reason is that some mods cannot work with other mods. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you read descriptions and update dates to save yourself a lot of mod troubleshooting later.
