A brutal trailer for The Outlast Trials was released this weekend during the PC Gaming Show, giving fans their first look at Red Barrels' upcoming survival horror game.
The trailer doesn't provide much new information about the game, other than that it will be released in 2021 for PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store. As of this writing, there is no mention of The Outlast Trials being exclusive to Epic's storefront.
According to the game developer, The Outlast Trials can be played alone or with up to three other players (four in total). No mention of asymmetrical multiplayer has yet been made, so it seems the current trials are a more traditional co-op experience.
Survive alongside your friends or dare to face the experiments on your own. Your freedom ends in 2021.
Welcome to Outlast Trials.

The game is set in the same universe as the previous two Outlast games, but it's not a direct sequel.
Although Red Barrels has stated that The Outlast Trials will once again highlight the evil Murkoff Corporation, it's unclear whether the game will revisit either Mount Massive Asylum or Temple Gate. If the franchise's history has any bearing on the setting of the game, it will be an entirely new location (but that's pure speculation at this point).
As of this writing, The Outlast Trials Steam page states that it features full controller support and cross-platform multiplayer. The game has yet to be announced for consoles. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more on the game as we learn about it.
