Since its announcement last March, One Piece Odyssey is not really the kind of game that reassures Luffy fans. Indeed, if Dragon Ball and Naruto have already had successful games, even now cults, this is not yet the case for Luffy and his band of pirates. But lovers of Oda's work do not despair, just like the pundits at Bandai Namco Entertainment who believe in the success of One Piece Odyssey. Moreover, to reassure players, the Japanese publisher has just shared a big video on the game, with the support of Katsuaki Tsusuki, the game's producer, Motoi Sakuraba, the composer and Ken Takano, the chief editor at Shueisha, who go behind the scenes of the making of this open-world RPG.
We learn to begin with that if Eiichiro Oda worked on the characters 3 years ago, it has been 5 good years since the development of One Piece Odyssey started. At the time, Katsuaki Tsusuki had just finished One Piece Warriors 4. He explains to us that the idea was to offer a different game, closer to adventure, but with J-RPG aspects that obviously appeal to the Japanese public. In the developer diary, we see that it is possible to change characters on the fly, and that they will wander in open areas where they can use their powers. The fights, on the other hand, will be turn-based, in a fairly classic way. Since the adventure is done by team, the player will be able to take advantage of all the skills of the key characters of One Piece. Despite its fairly flat turn-based J-ROG structure, One Piece Odyssey will not forget to offer spectacular sequences, just to make the game a little more epic. One Piece Odyssey is expected to release in 2022 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, and Xbox One.
