Onimusha is definitely back, but via an animated series on Netflix, 1st images

Onimusha will indeed return to the front of the stage, but not through a video game. At least not yet. Indeed, Netflix took advantage of its “Tudum” event to announce several projects, including this Onimusha coming soon. No date, no full name, but first images to confirm that it will be a series that takes place during the Edo era. No chance of seeing Jean Réno land, but rather a certain Miyamoto Musashi who will go in search of the legendary Oni gauntlet in order to go and kill the demon Genma. Netflix clarified that the series used modern processes mixing hand-drawn drawings and the use of 3D for a homogeneous rendering. The Sublimation studio is leading the project, with Shinya Sugai and Takashi Miike serving as directors, while Japanese actor Toshihiro Mifune served as the model for Miyamoto Musashi's character.





As for the video game, we recall that the data leak two years ago, at the end of 2020, had made it possible to see a certain Onimusha New Work in the list of games planned at Capcom. A listing that has proven to be correct for the past two years, which leads us to believe that the animated series is there to bring the franchise up to date, before perhaps announcing a new episode. When we see how much the Cyberpunk Edgerunners series has boosted the sales of the Cyberpunk 2077 game, the method could not be more validated. Unless this "New Work" was in the end only this side-project planned on Netflix from the start... Speculation remains open.
