Announced in September 2020 during Ubisoft Forward, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been living for some very complicated times. And we're not just talking about the release date, which was postponed for the first time (from January 21, 2021 to March 18, 2021) before finally disappearing into limbo. We especially think of the fact that it is no longer the Pune and Mumbai teams who are in charge of the project, but Ubisoft Montreal. In short, adventures that lead some observers to believe that the development of the game will finally be canceled.
This is undoubtedly the reason why Ubisoft has decided to express itself on the subject via a kind of FAQ where some sensitive points are addressed. First of all, the French publisher is formal: no, the development of Prince of Persia Les Sables du Temps Remake has not been canceled and is still in development at Ubisoft Montreal. As for the release date, we are assured that nothing has yet been defined and that Ubisoft will communicate it when this is the case. It is also stated that further Prince of Persia remakes are not in the works. Why this precision? Quite simply because last March, insider Tom Henderson claimed that a 2,5D Prince of Persia, largely inspired by the Ori license, was in development at Ubisoft Montpellier (Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends).
Finally, it is recalled that pre-orders have been canceled and refunded, and that they will restart once the new release date is known. “We will share more details about the development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake in future publications,” concludes Ubisoft. We remind you that the game is expected on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and PC.
