Thunderbolts: Marvel revealed the members of the team, the fans of the comics will complain
This was by far one of the biggest surprises from the Marvel panel at last night's D23 Expo, which was the reveal of the full Thunderbolts team. We had already had a few snippets of information thrown out by a journalist from Deadline last week, but this time it's official. Yelena Belova, the new Black Widow interpreted by Florence Pugh, is the one who leads this new team of anti-heroes. At his side, we find his father Red Guardian (played by David Harbour), John Walker, also known as US Agent in the comics, and who will allow Wyatt Russell (yes, Kurt's son) to resume his role since the series Falcon & The Winter Soldier. Bucky Barnes will also be part of the Thunderbolts to the surprise of Marvel fans since he has never been part of this team. Conversely, Ghost, the antagonist of Ant-Man 2 and embodied on screen by Hannah John-Kamen will also be there, as will Taskmaster, which will allow Olga Kurylenko to return to the MCU. And finally, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, will be the last link in this team, she who we could see several times in the post-credits scenes of the film Black Widow and Faucon & Le Soldat de l' 'Winter recruiting. She is the equivalent of Nick Fury in a bad version, and we finally understand why.
Inevitably, such a cast is enough to make American comic book readers react, those who hoped to see the Red Hulk or the Abomination land as a powerful supporting character. Fans are also surprised by the absence of Zemo, yet introduced in the MCU and which would have allowed the team to gain personality. For the moment, we know that the film is written by Eric Pearson, who has already signed the screenplay for Black Widow, which is a rather logical choice when we know that this Thunderbolts will be essentially centered on the character of Yelena Belova. Filming is expected to begin in the summer of 2023 for a release scheduled for July 24, 2024.
