Tomb Raider 2 with Alicia Vikander: the film finally canceled? It's bad start

Released in 2018, the Tomb Raider reboot in theaters starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft divided public opinion at the time. If the peloche made by Roar Uthaug was faithful to the original material (probably too much, by the way), the result was unfortunately also disappointing. With $274,7 million generated at the box office, the film rather broke even, even though MGM and Warner were probably expecting a better result. Nevertheless, a sequel was in the cards and the project seemed to be rolling like clockwork, just before the pandemic came to turn everything upside down. Postponed due to COVID, the sequel now seems to be at a standstill. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actress Alicia Vikander confessed that she no longer knows what the film is all about. His remarks are even quite alarmist.

With the takeover of MGM by Amazon, I don't know where it's at, it's a new policy. I think Misha and I are ready, but the project isn't up to us now to be honest with you.

Reading between the lines, it must indeed be understood that the sequel no longer seems relevant, nor even a priority for Amazon, which is undoubtedly focusing on more ambitious and lucrative productions. In the meantime, we can find Alicia Vikander in the Irma Vep series, hoping that she can take over the role of Lara Croft in the near future…
