Last week, Activision announced through an official press release that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II had generated over $800 million in revenue during its launch weekend; a record which, until then, was held by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (775 million dollars). Today, the American publisher sabers the champagne again. The reason ? The game crossed the billion dollar mark in about ten days. For comparison, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 took 16 days to achieve the same performance, and Black Ops 2 15 days. In this context, the rumor that the series could skip 2023 may come as a surprise. As of now, Activision hasn't made anything official yet. Remember, however, that GTA 5 remains the boss: the Rockstar Games blockbuster has generated more than a billion dollars in revenue in just three days.
Going back to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, we also learn that since its release on October 28, it has totaled more than 200 million hours played and a billion multiplayer sessions across all media. In short, Bobby Kotick – and Microsoft at the same time – has every reason to smile, especially since Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will be released on November 16.
