As of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6, the primary method of obtaining Battle Pass cosmetics has been through the Battle Star system. The mechanics are no different for Chapter 3 Season 1, but the methods for obtaining Battle Stars have changed somewhat.
How to Get Battle Stars
The main thing to know about getting Battle Stars is that they are earned by earning enough XP (experience points) to move up a level in your season ranking. Each level you reach grants you five Battle Stars. XP is awarded for almost everything you do in the game, but there are ways to earn it faster. The best way to earn XP is to complete assigned quests in your Quests tab on the home screen.

There are usually a wide variety of quests you can complete at any time. Daily quests will only net you 750 XP each, but the first three you complete will net you a bonus 15 XP each. Season Quests grant you 000, and crossing specific Season Quest thresholds grants you 25 XP. Typically, Event Quests grant 000-55 XP.
Another way to earn XP quickly is by hitting specific thresholds in your milestones, which can also be viewed in the Quests tab. There are dozens of milestones to complete, and each has 20 tiers, all of which grant you 8k XP.
As you can see, there are many ways to get Battle Stars, but all of them revolve around gameplay and gaining experience by exploring the map and the different game mechanics. Unfortunately, there is no no codes for free Battle Stars – you have to earn them yourself!
