Trials of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 3) turns 25 on September 30, and Square Enix is celebrating the anniversary in style. The Trials of Mana remake is getting an update that brings new difficulties, items, and changes to New Game+. Fans will be happy to know that the update is free and available now.
Trials of Mana 1.1.0 adds No Future difficulty level. This mode strengthens enemies and bosses, while limiting the objects and equipment that can be used during combat. There is also a time limit for boss fights.
To compensate for this, however, No Future features more powerful gear as well as new chain abilities.
Completing the game in No Future mode unlocks the Rabite Slippers, a piece of gear that allows players to frolic across the world map without having to deal with enemies.
Those who want a greater challenge during New Game+ can now choose Expert difficulty from the start and can reset their chosen characters' levels to 1. Previously, only characters outside of the main party had their levels reset.
Unlocked costumes can still be chosen during New Game+ or after resetting a character's class.
If ever there was a reason to “scratch that old school,” Trials of Mana 1.1.0 is it — especially because the game is 30% off on Nintendo Switch, Steam, and PlayStation 4 until November 2.
