With Christophe Gans, we talked about Pact of the Wolves 4K, Silent Hill, Project Zero, Crying Freeman and Brandon Lee
French filmmaker who became known for works such as Crying Freeman (1995), Le Pacte des Loups (2001), Silent Hill (2006) and Beauty & the Beast (2014), Christophe Gans is considered - rightly - as one of the pillars of pop culture and Asian cinema in Spain. On the occasion of the release of the Pacte des Loups in its long edition and restored in 4K (in theaters since June 10 in Pathé Gamont cinemas), we have the chance and the opportunity to talk to this man who is also a great lover of video games. For 55 minutes, we discussed several topics: from the restoration of the Pact of Wolves in 4K to his next films which are a new Silent Hill and Project Zero, through his references to SoulCalibur, his love for Shaw Brothers films , but also some unpublished (even exclusive) anecdotes on Mark Dacascos, Jason Scott Lee and even Brandon Lee, who all had to play in his Crying Freeman. Indeed, the son of Bruce Lee, who died suddenly on the set of The Crow in 1993, had been approached for the role of Crying Freeman, long before Christophe Gans made the choice to take Mark Dacascos. The French filmmaker explains to us that he met Brandon Lee in the United States, having had lunch with him to offer him the role.
We also took advantage of our time spent with Christophe Gans to come back to some cult scenes from the Pact of Wolves, such as this metaphor of a naked Monica Bellucci whose body turns into a snowy mountain, and this reference to SoulCalibur in the sword held by the character of Vincent Cassel in the film. Christophe Gans explains to us that it was Namco's fighting game that gave him this idea, knowing that he had also been influenced by The Rage of the Tiger by Chang Cheh where the antagonist fights with a combat flail , separated into three parts. In short, the interview lasts 55 minutes, and there are a lot of interesting things and crisp anecdotes, as long as you like cinema, pop culture, Asian influences and video games.
For people who still doubt it (not many people I think), Christophe Gans confirms the return of game(s) SILENT HILL, in addition to his film in preparation. The script is ready, they are looking for the actors and no, the film will not be released in 2023.
