On Teamfight Tactics, gold is the sinews of war. Knowing how to manage your resources well is essential in order to control your game and put the odds on your side, which is why we present to you several tips to better understand the economy.
As a reminder, at the end of each round, all players receive 5 base gold, but also additional POs called "interests" depending on how much gold they already have in stock. For each level of 10 gold, they gain 1 additional gold per round (+1 Range at 10, +2 Range at 20...up to +5 Range at 50). What's more, each victory won against a player gives 1 additional gold, And winning and losing streak are another source of income. They bring +1 Range from 2 consecutive victories or losses, +2 Range from 5 and +3 Range from 8.
The different saving strategies
The frugal strategy
→ She is to be preferred when you were lucky at the beginning of the game and consists of saving to reach the maximum interest (at 50 gold) as soon as possible.
→ Ideally, by following this strategy, it is possible to achieve 30 or even 40 gold at the time of the Krugs, and 50 gold only 2 or 3 rounds later.
→ Subsequently, the vast majority of the gold you will earn in excess (above 50) will be used to buy XP for quickly go to level 7.
→ At level 7, it is time to reroll to obtain tier 4 and tier 3 champions (Editor's note: tier 4 = champions that cost 4 gold) which will be the pillars of your composition and will allow you to create a coherent team. It is necessary all the same avoid going below the 20 gold threshold to be able to boost its economy fairly quickly.
→ Once your composition has stabilized, start saving again to reach the 50 gold level again, then use the surplus again to level up to level 7 and seek to level up your tier 4 units.
→ This strategy is generally the most effective in the late game, because it allows you to quickly obtain tier 3, 4 and 5, but can leave enough vulnerable in the early game where you risk taking a lot of damage.
Aggressive leveling
→ If you are in early game winning streak, you can consider a more aggressive strategy in order to continue to win and benefit from the gold of the victories.
→ In this situation, you will usually want pass level 4 from the first PVP round, then pass level 5 when you are at 6/10 XP, and later level 6 when you are at 8/20 or 12/20.
→ If you will never have a very substantial gold reserve, this strategy will allow you to continue your winning streak since you will often be one level ahead of your opponents at the start/middle of the game.
→ Thereafter, you still need save if you want to challenge the top 1 and therefore pass level 8, especially since a single defeat can be enough to break your series which risks delaying you enormously economically.
The “hyper roll” strategy
→ For this strategy, it is important not to spend your gold (except in the tier 1s that interest you) until the Krugs round.
→ Just after defeating the Krugs, i.e. one round before reaching level 5, spend all your gold to reroll and try to upgrade several champions to level 3. Ideally, you want to get at least 2.
→ The reason timing is so important is that the drop rates for different tiers of champions vary by level: you are more likely to get tier 1 at level 4 (50%) than at level 5 (37%).

Of course, economy on TFT is not an exact science, and you'll usually need to position yourself between thrifty strategy and aggressive leveling depending on how your game is going. At the end of the game, while it may be tempting to save, it is generally more interesting to spend your gold quickly if it allows you to avoid taking 20 points of damage in the next round.
All our tips for controlling your economy
Le Carrousel (or shared draft)
→ If you are among the last players to choose during the Carousel, and there is no more interesting object, take the champion who is worth the most gold can be interesting in the middle of the game to reach 50 faster. As a reminder, all level 1 champions can be sold for their full value.
The interests
→ Always try to stay at the highest level of interest you can achieve (10, 20, 30, 40 or 50), even if it means selling champions that you have on your bench.
→ Avoid being too expectant keeping champions on your bench "just in case" so you can instead sell them to reach the interest tier above.
→ The gold coin won in a victory is calculated before interest : if you are at 49 gold but you win the fight, you will go to 50 before the end of the round and will therefore receive 5 gold of interest.
When to reroll
→ Never reroll at the start of the game (up to 50 gold) unless you apply the "hyper roll" strategy or can significantly improve your composition.
→ Always have a reason to reroll : search for a particular champion, or to lvl up one of those you already have. Keep in mind the units you're looking for when chaining rerolls so you don't miss them by accident.
→ When there is no reroll reason, keep your gold to buy experience and thus level up as quickly as possible to have a better chance of finding better champions.
When to level up
→ The account to know how much gold it will cost to level up is very simple: 4 PO = 4 XP, so the missing number of XP = the number of gold needed.
→ It can be useful to buy 4 XP for level up just before the Krugs if you think that your 4 champions are not strong enough to beat them.
In this situation, with exactly 30 gold and strong enough champions, I don't need to spend any gold to lvl up.
→ It is generally interesting to level up right after a round against monsters (Wolves, Ravens, Dragons), since you can save quietly before this round which does not put you in danger, and that the experience count will always be correct (you will get to the next level with 0 XP).
The 9 level
→ It is generally not recommended to go for level 9, since it is extremely expensive while rolling for upgrades will often be more interesting.
→ Passing level 9 is to be considered only if:
- You still have economy after level 8
- You don't have a lot of champions who are still level 1
- You can add a unit that will significantly increase the power of your team
- The match should last long enough for you to have time to skip it
When to sacrifice your economy
→ If you start getting low on HP (around 30 PV), it's time to use all your gold to level up or seek to improve your team. Better to be alive with 0 gold than dead. 30 PV is usually a good indicator, since it still leaves you with 1 defeat to succeed in your transition.
→ If you can significantly increase your team's power level thanks to an extra level, a specific champion or an upgrade, and that this decision can put you on a winning streak, it is sometimes worth spending a lot at once. So he is recommended to keep at least 20 gold so as not to start from 0.
→ Generally, from level 8, unless you're still very high in HP, it's time to go looking to improve your team at the cost of your economy. Indeed, it is very rare to reach level 9 (which requires 76 XP), and each victory counts enormously at the end of the game.
Winning and losing streaks
→ Winning streaks can be a very important source of gold, which can give up to +4 range per round from 7 consecutive victories (+3 from the series, and +1 from the victory). It should be noted that these are not interrupted by a defeat during a round against a monster.
→ From 4 consecutive victories (+2 Range per round), it is important to protect it, even if it means sacrificing interests in favor of additional levels or a few rerolls to find upgrades and continue to win.
→ Once your team is further solidified, use the bonus gold from your win streak to rebuild your economy and collect as much gold as possible.
→ If losing streaks offer a gold bonus almost similar to winning streaks (1 gold less linked to the victory), they are however risky because losing too many VP in the beginning/middle of the game can quickly become dangerous. It is therefore recommended not to seek to lose too long.
→ However, they offer another advantage over victory streaks: the possibility of choosing better objects on the Carousels, including spatulas.
