Teamfight Tactics patch 10.1 adds 2 new champions (Leona et Karma) as well as the new origin Lunar which allows the entire team to periodically gain critical chance, critical damage, and magic damage. We've been testing different comps to fit these new champions into so you can try them out from day one.

The Light/Lunar Hyper roll composition
Vayne (1) | Nasus (1) | Jax (2) | Aatrox (3) | Soraka (3) | yorick (4) | Leona (1) | Karma (3) |
Light (6) |
When a Light unit dies, other Light units gain +35% attack speed and restore 25% of the dead unit's max HP. |
Lunar (2) |
Every 7 seconds, your team gains 20% Critical Hit Chance, 20% Critical Damage, and 20% Magic Damage (this bonus stacks up to 4 times). |
Mystical (2) |
All allies have +40 magic resistance. |
Defender (2) |
Defenders gain +150% Armor. |
Besides new champions, patch 10.1 brings many buffs to champions Light, making this composition rather enticing. This bonus works pretty well with Lunar, and it is therefore interesting to apply the "hyper roll" strategy to boost Vayne, Nasus, Jax et Leona at level 3.
Preferred items
Vayne |

Dagger of Statikk |
Dagger of Statikk |
Dagger of Statikk |
||
+ | + | + | ||
In addition to the various changes in 10.1, the Dagger of Statikk received an interesting modification: it adapts to the level of its wearer. If the equipped champion is level 3, it deals 80 damage to 5 targets every 3 attacks, which makes it very attractive on Vayne in a hyper roll composition. With the significant attack speed she gains with champions Light, she should do heavy area damage with multiple Daggers.
Otherwise, Vayne works with other attack speed items: giant slayer + Ouragan de Runaan is very strong against tanks, while Guinsoo's Raging Blade + Infinity blade works well with Lunar bonus which increases crit over time. |
Nasus |
||||
morellonomicon |
bramble armor |
Warmog, living armor |
||
+ | + | + | ||
Nasus will act as the main tank and will be equipped accordingly. morellonomicon works well with his splash damage when casting his ultimate, while thebramble armor is a newcomer to 10.1 that returns inflicts damage (based on wielder's level) to surrounding opponents when under attack. These two objects, combined with the Warmog, living armor, will make it very strong in the early game.
Your priority should be getting the items from Vayne, which is why you will have to make do with what is left for Nasus. Zephyr, dragon claw, and Will of the Titan (replacing ghost dancer) will also be possible. |
Procedure and other options
As said above, this composition works on the principle ofhyper roll, which involves saving up to Krugs, then rolling all your gold after the PVE round to try and find Vayne, Nasus, Jax et Leona at levels 3. It is also possible to play the slow roll version if you are not challenged: save up to 50 gold then use your surplus gold to roll each round.

To levels 5 and 6, you will usually want to have 3 Light + 2 Lunar, which will give you Mystique et Défenseur as a bonus normally. Then try to pass level 7 then 8 to add Yorick et Aatrox, in order to pass in 6 Lights. Logically, you should be pretty strong in the mid game which will allow you to save for level 8 pretty quickly despite your XP lag due to hyper roll.
If you're challenged and can't find your level 3s, it's still possible to pivot to a 6 Light comp that uses Lucian by carrying by leveling 7-8 faster, by selling Vayne and giving his objects to him.
The Defender / Lunar / Lightning composition
Leona (1) | Karma (3) | Ornn (1) | Malphite (4) | Amumu (5) | Nami (5) | Zed (5) | Luxury (7) |
Defender (4) |
Defenders gain +300% Armor. |
Lunar (2) |
Every 7 seconds, your team gains 20% Critical Hit Chance, 20% Critical Damage, and 20% Magic Damage (this bonus stacks up to 4 times). |
Lightning (4) |
Lightning champions deal 500 damage to adjacent opponents when they deal or take a critical hit. |
Mystical (2) |
All allies have +40 magic resistance. |
Avatar (1) |
The Avatar's Origin is counted twice for trait bonuses. |
This composition is very different from the previous one since it is based on a strategy of « rush 8 » (go to level 8 as soon as possible) to use the strength of legendary champions and Luxury in order to win in lategame. It is particularly flexible, but requires a good knowledge of transitions and replacements to work. Most of the hard-to-find legendary units can be replaced with transitional ones.
Preferred items
Luxury |
||||
Lance de Shojin |
Precious Gauntlet |
Infinity blade |
||
+ | + | + | ||
This composition is based on excellent defenses with the Défenseurs et Mystics, and on Luxury to inflict damage. To do so, a Lance de Shojin allows him to ult quickly, while the combo Precious Gauntlet + Infinity blade works particularly well with the bonus Lunar, allowing him to quickly reach 100% crit chance and 235% crit damage on his attacks and ultimate.
Otherwise, a simple Rabadon's Headdress will also do, coupled for example to a Ultra-fast cannon so that Lux stays where she is no matter the situation. Ouragan de Runaan also works, granting twice the mana generation of Spear of Shojin from the second projectile. |
Zed |
||||
Guardian angel |
Redemption |
Ion Spark |
||
+ | + | + | ||
Since its existence, the basic objects on Zed are now known. L'Guardian angel and Redemption can apply to its different clones, while the multiple Ion sparks (changed in 10.1) will do heavy damage to champions who cast spells.
Alternatively, objects like Lance de Shojin, dragon claw, Talisman of Light (in case of Lux Light) or Warmog, living armor are also possible on Zed. |
Procedure and other options
This composition is based on a "rush 8" strategy which consists of saving as much as possible to pass level 8 as soon as possible (usually in 4-3, i.e. 3 rounds after the Wolves) and build according to the legendary champions and Luxury found. At the start of the game, a combination of Défenseurs and Lunar will usually be efficient enough to survive, with Thresh, Nautilus ou Nasus who hold the objects of Zed, and a champion like Zyra or even Azir to take those who will eventually go to Lux.
The main difficulty of this composition will be to find the transition units to survive the middle game. A mix of Mage and D'Ocean can do the trick, whileShadows ou Underworld will also be effective in stage 3. Volibear and Ornn for the Lightning bonus will also be considered. The choice of the final composition will be made according to the units found, and especially the Luxury.
If you find Lux Lightning, the composition above is certainly the best, but other options exist: Lux Enfers with amumu, in which case add Nautilus instead of Ornn (for bonus Ocean) will be better, Lux Crystal if you go looking taric et Ashe for the bonus of 4 units, Lux Shadows with a Master Yi to go get the 4 Mystics, Lux Light if you have a Talisman of Light for Zed...
Not all of these compositions are necessarily the best in the patch, but they should be quite effective and allow you to get familiar with the 2 new champions. These are very rarely used as carries, but the Lunar bonus they provide is still quite interesting, especially in the early and mid game.
