A strategy that has surged in popularity among high ELO TFT players over the past few months, and which is very strong despite being situational and difficult to execute, is the one dubbed the " Rush 8 Or  « Millionaire comp ". It consists of pass level 8 as quickly as possible for bet on level 2 legendary champions (5 PO and especially Luxury) for carry at the end of the game, and asks players to adapt to the pieces they will find to build their final composition.

The basis of the level 8 Rush comp
Nautilus |
malphite |
taric |
amumu |
Karma |
Nami |
singed |
Luxury |
As you can see, the preferred base is usually a mix of 4 Defenders, any of which can do the trick until you find amumu, taric, malphite et Nautilus which form the strongest frontline in the late game, then add two Mystics, and finally a Luxury in main carry. The eighth unit will often be singed, sometimes Zed, or any other unit depending on the origin of the Lux you have. There are a lot of possible variations, which we will discuss later.
In order to unlock all these legendary units, it will be necessary pass level 8 before all his opponentss, by saving his gold as much as possible during the early and mid game, and by making use of many transition units so as not to lose too many VPs before reaching his powerspike. This strategy has the advantage of being extremely powerful late game, and generally allow you to finish in the top 1 if the conditions were ideal and it is well controlled.
When to Play Strategy Rush 8
If it is technically possible to force this strategy in all games for some of the best players in the ladder, it is more advisable to consider it under a few specific conditions:
- Have a good or even excellent start to the game.
For example, if you have a lot of Druids and Wood, or any solid level 2 units (Nasus, Diana, Ornn + volibear...) before the first PVP round which should allow you to have a winning streak and not be too worried during the middle game, it will be much easier to save.
- Have received gold in the first PVE rounds.
This strategy relies on a strong economy to level up quickly. Ideally, you will want to already have 10 gold before the first PVP round, in order to reach maximum interest at 50 gold as soon as possible, usually at the Krugs.
- Have a Wand too big during the first carousel.
Since Lux will be your main late-game carry, she will rely on items that boost her magic damage, which is why the Wand too big is the most important component.
Finally, this strategy is the most complex of TFT and requires a excellent management of its economy and especially transition units in the middle of the game, and a good late game pivoting ability depending on the units offered to you. We don't recommend it for players who aren't comfortable with these concepts.
How to Run the Rush 8 Strategy
The basis of the Rush 8 strategy is simple: save as much as possible in order to reach 50 gold as soon as possible, usually around the Krugs, then use any excess gold to buy experience without ever rolling (or almost). Normally the goal is to pass level 8 in round 4-3 (3 rounds after the Wolves), and start rolling to find your legendary units.
In order to reach your gold levels as quickly as possible, avoid buying superfluous units at the start of the game, especially the 3 gold ones that can cost your economy dearly. Don't hesitate to check out our advanced tips that can help you boost your interests faster.
In order to survive the mid-game, you will need to call upon " transition units »: champions or synergies strong enough to take you up to level 8 and especially on which to equip your objects which will then go to your legendaries. There are several interesting combinations:
maokai |
Ivern |
neeko |
The White |
Wood et Druid, especially if you have neeko ou The White level 2 who will be able to carry the objects of Luxury. You can then add two Assassins or two Magi with LeBlanc.
Ornn |
Leona |
volibear |
Karma |
Nasus |
Lunar et Lightning, with Ornn, volibear , Leona et Karma at the start of the game, and why not Nasus who can also use magic damage items and the morellonomicon.
Thresh |
Nautilus |
Vladimir |
syndra |
Taliyah |
|
Défenseur et Ocean, with Thresh, Nautilus, Vladimir et syndra. It is interesting to use Taliyah with malphite ou Qiyana on a map Mountain for the massive shield.
In general, Qiyana will always be an excellent transitional unit since it is very strong in the mid-game and offers interesting origin bonuses. Other champions like Zyra, Varus, Diana... are also to be considered.
Another very important unit in this type of composition will usually be Azir. Very strong in the mid game, especially if you have it level 2, it works wonderfully with items from Luxury ( Precious Gauntlet, Ultra-fast cannon...) and in combination with Karma for attack speed.
It will be up to you to judge what are the strongest combinations you can make at all stages of the game, remembering that you will have to avoid as many rolls as possible. Also take champions like Karma, Nautilus, Thresh...who will usually be in your final team. It is also sometimes possible to roll a little bit if you have a lot of pairs that will really make you stronger, even if it means delaying your level 8 by a round or two.
If you ever can't find a transition comp strong enough and you lose too much life (below 30 HP), consider pivoting to another comp depending on what you have at your disposal and roll to complete it. It's better to die top 4 than to make a top 8 because you persisted on a path that wasn't working.
Normally with your economy you should be able to pass level 8 in round 4-3 (3 rounds after Wolves). At this point, you can roll all your gold in order to quickly find a Lux and decide what type of composition you are going with, all while picking up the other legendary units that will also be in your final team.
Then, start gradually replacing your transition units with your new legendaries, all in saving again. If you are strong enough, you can consider going to level 9 to further maximize your chances of finding your legendary champions, otherwise feel free to « slow roll » (roll every round without going below a level) above 30, 40 or 50 gold for example to find your upgrades.
Generally speaking, you will ultimately want pass level 9 before the end of the game when you have stabilized your composition and it is strong enough, which will allow you to pass your units level 2 and add additional synergies.
Preferred items
Luxury |
||||
Precious Gauntlet |
Seraph's Embrace |
Ultra-fast cannon |
||
+ | + | + | ||
Lux is extremely strong since her 9.24 buff, and this from level 1. With the Precious Gauntlet, she deals massive damage with her ultimate if he crits, while theSeraph's Embrace allows him to cast it as quickly as possible and gain mana after The Ultra-fast cannon makes her stay put in the corner, so she doesn't get caught for stepping too far.
This can be replaced by other options: Lance de Shojin for more mana, or Infinity blade for extra critical damage with the Precious Gauntlet. This can be replaced by a Rabadon's Headdress. |
singed |
||||
morellonomicon |
dragon claw |
Guardian angel |
||
+ | + | + | ||
If you play with singed, you will definitely want to give it a morellonomicon which is the best item on it. If you find him level 2 before Lux and he serves as your main carry, he can use the Precious Gauntlet or Headdress of Rabadon. Otherwise, he will use defensive items: dragon claw, Guardian angel... If you have a Lux Hells and Spatula, give Ashes of Hell Singed to leave fiery squares behind can also work very well. |
Zed |
||||
Guardian angel |
Redemption |
Ion Spark |
||
+ | + | + | ||
If you decide to play Zed carry (because you already have champions Lightning for example), try giving him the three perfect items for him: Guardian angel, Redemption et Ion Spark, all of which are multiplied when it creates clones. Alternatively, Zed can use other more basic items: Lance de Shojin for ultimate more regularly, Talisman of Light if you have a Lux Light, or even just Thief's Gloves. |
ou amumu ou taric |
||||
Guardian angel |
||||
+ | ||||
You will have understood it,Guardian angel is the most versatile item of this type of composition, since it can go to almost all legendary champions, including the two main tanks. They can use any defensive object. |
Other objects can be considered without them being particularly important on your end-game champions but in order to be able to survive until then: the Zephyr is very strong for example, while the Iron Solari Medallion will give you a great start to the game.
Different variants of the Rush 8 comp
As said above, this composition is entirely based on the origin of Lux that you have unlocked. Depending on its bonus, your last units will change drastically. We list the few strongest versions, but keep in mind that they are always to be modified according to the game.
The different legendary units also all have alternative options if you can't find them: amumu et taric can be replaced by any Défenseurs, Soraka et Janna can replace Karma et Nami...

Ornn |
Nautilus |
taric |
amumu |
Karma |
Nami |
Zed |
Lux Lightning |
|
Perhaps the strongest version, Lux Lightning gives access to the bonus 4 Lightning, which deals 500 damage to nearby opponents each time the target inflicts or receives a critical hit. This version is extremely strong once you get Zed level 2 with interesting objects. |
Nautilus |
malphite |
taric |
amumu |
Karma |
Nami |
singed |
Lux Ocean |
|
Another fairly classic version, the fact of having Lux Ocean gives a good mana generation bonus with Nautilus et Nami, allowing Défenseurs to cast their checks continuously while Lux uses her lasers. It is also possible to have Thresh instead of malphite and add syndra, Vladimir ou Qiyana Ocean at level 9 for 6. |
taric |
amumu |
Karma |
Nami |
Twitch |
Dr. World |
singed |
Lux Crystal |
Ashe |
|||||||
If you face many Magi, this version is undoubtedly the most effective since it combines Poison for singed, But also Crystal 4 with Luxury, Ashe et taric, making your champions very hard to kill. |
We are not going to list all the possibilities since they are almost endless. The difficulty of this strategy will be for you to do the best with for combine groups of champions offered to you : Poison, Lightning, Ocean, Lunar in some cases with Leona...
If you get Lux Hells you could for example consider pivoting on 6 Hells with her in carry, same for Lux Shadows, While Lux Clouds will be self-sufficient...The whole strength of these comps is simply that the legendary units are extremely powerful when you get them to level 2, and this generally allows them to beat comps that are based on stronger synergies.
Positioning Tips
Luxury will usually be best positioned in a corner, allowing her laser to hit more targets than if she's in the middle and throwing it purely vertically. It's the same for Nami and its wave. Lux will however be able to go in the middle if you face Assassins who risk killing her too quickly.
Karma should be positioned alone next to your main carry, Luxury ou Zed, to boost his attack speed and give him a shield. singed should go to one end of the board in order to cross the opposing team diagonally.
This positioning can be modified according to the Elementary boxes. This kind of composition works best on cards Mountain (in order to have access to Qiyana Mountain + Taliyah to survive the midgame) or Ocean to boost your mana generation. Overall, however, these compositions remain viable on all types of maps.
