Patch 9.16 brings with it a new origin to Teamfight Tactics: Hextech. The latter allows you to deactivate enemy objects at the start of the fight and for a limited time.
hextech |
At the start of combat, your champions throw a bomb at an enemy, disabling their items for 8 seconds. It also disables opponents' objects near the target. 2 units: the bomb affects all champions within a radius of one square (7 total squares max) 4 units: the bomb affects all champions within a radius of two squares (13 total squares max) |
Hextech Origin Champions on TFT
This origin comes to TFT with 4 reps that are also new:
- Camille (Hextech / Master of Blades, 1 range)
- Jayce (Hextech / Shapeshifter, 2 gold)
- Vi (Hextech / Brawler, 3 gold)
- Jinx (Hextech / Pistolero, 4th PO).
If it does not seem optimal to use the 4 champions together, since they do not have real synergies apart from their origin, two units are enough to have an effect which can be very strong.
Indeed, items are an extremely important part of Teamfight Tactics, and since players tend to group their champions and put multiple items on their carry, disabling them on max 7 units is usually enough to hit everyone. Hextech can be very effective in countering some highly prized items, such as the Guardian Angel which won't activate, or the Ultra-Rapid Cannon, forcing its wielder to get closer without the range bonus.
How to counter Hextech on TFT?
However, it is possible to "counter" the new origin. First of all, by scattering its champions, the chances that the bomb leaves on a unit which is not a priority are increased. As a reminder, the bomb targets a random champion who is equipped with at least one item. If you put a lone champion in a corner with a single item, and your carry on the other side, you'll have a chance to preserve the latter. Finally, it may be wise to place your items on different characters rather than just one in order to reduce the effectiveness of Hextechs.
