PUBG is testing a new experience with Zone Tag Mode

The developers of PUBG have announced that PUBG LABS is making a comeback, with a unique mode called Zone Tag that will require you to hold onto...a ball. As it slowly moves into its fourth year, PUBG continues to innovate to bring new modes to its players. After various tests in recent months via PUBG LABS, none of which have yet been permanently implemented, the developers are launching Zone Tag mode, which will require players to hold onto a ball for as long as possible.

Area Tag Mode in PUBG, Full Details

In this new and fun mode, we find ourselves on Erangel and must keep control of a ball. However, if the task may seem easy, it will not be because whoever has the ball in his possession will be marked and almost all players will be able to see his position. To recover the ball, simply knock down or eliminate its owner. Interestingly, the ball is the center of the area, that is, it will follow the movements of the squad, which, by the way, will receive a continuous boost as long as the ball is controlled. The latter will disappear in phase 6, to let the area resume the course of a normal game.

PUBG is testing a new experience with Zone Tag Mode
In this mode, vehicles are immune to damage, and players controlling the ball cannot get into water and other hard-to-reach places. You can find all the points of the zone tag mode below:
  • The ball spawns on a random player at the start of the match.
  • Wherever the ball moves, the center of the circle follows it.
  • The possessor of the ball benefits from a special visual effect.
  • All players belonging to the ball owner's squad receive a full boost.
  • The possessor of the ball will be highlighted by a column of light visible from a distance of 100 m.
  • It is not possible to put down or pass the ball, but the player will automatically lose it if he is neutralized/killed or if he enters a forbidden zone.
  • When no one is in possession of the ball, it slowly rises in the air for 5 seconds or until no obstacle blocks it.
  • The ball will then seek to attach itself to a new potential target within 30m and will begin to move in its direction.
  • If no potential target is located, the ball will remain stationary for 15 seconds before heading towards the center of the map.
  • A system message will display for all players when the ball is dropped or picked up.
  • Wherever the ball moves, the center of the circle follows it.
  • The circle is always subject to phases that shrink it and inflict damage.
  • In the 6th phase, the ball disappears and the center of the circle locks until the end of the match.
  • The player who enters an forbidden zone loses the ball and cannot receive it.
  • Prohibited areas include:
    • The small islands off the main continent
    • High areas and inaccessible roofs
    • The ferries
    • Water
      • Anyone with the ball who enters the water will suffer damage and lose the ball.
  • Ground vehicles will spawn at all possible spawn points on the map.
    • No boats or motorgliders will spawn.
  • All vehicles will be immune to weapon damage, and it will be impossible to puncture their tires.
    • However, we cannot guarantee that hitting an obstacle will not cause damage!
    • Spike Traps will not spawn.
  • While inside a vehicle, reloading weapons will not deplete your ammo supply.
The test periods will take place from February 9 to 15 on PC and from March 23 to 1 on consoles.
